Cheers to David Shaw from Portland, Oregon. For David, the pursuit of warm blue water has been a lifelong theme. He jokes that it may have started before he was even born, having been "conceived" in the Virgin Islands. Since then, he's spent much of his life chasing waves and ocean adventures, from family visits to Ocean City, Maryland, to time spent on Maui and surf trips to Costa Rica in search of winter swells.
Based in Portland, Oregon, David embraces the Pacific Northwest's vibrant water sports culture while continuing to seek out destinations that offer the warm-water experiences he loves most. Whether surfing, foiling, paddling, or exploring new coastlines, he gravitates toward any opportunity to be on the water.
A dedicated Session Magazine subscriber, David finds inspiration in the stories of fellow watermen and waterwomen who have built their lives around the ocean. As he explains, "Each month I can't wait for my Session Magazine to arrive. I literally read it front to back as soon as I get it. I'm inspired by others who have centered their lives around water sports like surfing, foiling, and more."
For David, Session fills a gap that existed throughout his youth. "It was the magazine I didn't have growing up because I wasn't just a surfer—I lived for anything involving waves. Now, when I can't be on the water myself, I get to experience those adventures through the stories and people featured in every issue."
