Cheers to Jennifer Johnston from Washington, DC where the nearest surf break or shoreline is about a two and a half hour drive. So, Jen admits she is in a long-distance relationship with the ocean.

Johnston says, "I am a stoked East Coast water woman and nothing makes me happier than feeling the kinetic energy of the ocean. My love of the water and ocean is really a reflection of a deep love of self and nature. The ocean softens my edges, renews the connection to my emotions and reminds me that we are not separate from nature - the ocean is everything to me. I recently began freediving and it has lead me to capturing and photographing myself 'mermaiding around' and creating artistic underwater imagery for creative self-expression."

"I live in Washington DC and the nearest surf break or shoreline is about a two and a half hour drive, so I always say that I am in a long distance relationship with the ocean. I spend surfing time in OBX during the summer and enjoy coastal/blue water sailing in the winter. I am always up for a surf or sailing mish anywhere in the world, but the Chesapeake Bay is my first sailing love. I am an active member and advocate for Women Who Sail and The Sailing Club of Washington. I am also highly involved in women’s sailing initiatives and women’s sailing safety. I learned how to sail over a decade ago on the Chesapeake and it has changed my life forever. It is my passion and dream to share the beauty, confidence and sport of sailing with other women."

"I do not travel delicately or like a typical tourist, so I love Session Magazine because it inspires me to find my next wild travel destination where I can challenge myself in nature and push the limits of my mind, my body and my connection to my inner confidence underwater. I subscribed to Session Magazine because they feature a confident, balanced view of water women and female athletes."

Thank you for the support Jennifer and we look forward to hearing more about your aquatic adventures in the future!
