Cheers to John Meitzen from Raleigh, NC. John grew up windsurfing in the 1980s on the Texas Gulf Coast. His dad was the first windsurfer in Texas and could be seen windsurfing on Matagorda Bay until he was over 80 years old. Meitzen's job as a college professor brought him to North Carolina over ten years ago. Now every chance he gets, he loads up the boards and heads with his daughter to their local lake or the Outer Banks, especially Hatteras Island.
John says, "The most important thing my father taught me about windsurfing was not to wait for the perfect wind, water or gear. You go with whatever mother nature gifts. In big or small wind, I now find the best part of the sport is sailing with my daughter and observing how she tackles the changing conditions. I’m pretty sure my dad felt that way too. I read Session magazine because it is a way for me to feel connected to other environmentally-driven water sports enthusiasts from all over the world. Though we’ve never met, we share a vital secret: our sports, whatever the discipline, are more relevant than ever and are still going strong."
Thanks for the kind words and inspiration John! - The Session Crew
